lurcheral Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 I recently bought a used automatic Seat Alhambra from 2004, 1.8tdi. I haven't had it very long and use it for my work which involves lots of short journeys throughout the day. With this in mind I've only actually taken it out on the motorway twice since I bought it a few weeks ago. The problem is that both times I took it out I've had an issue with the acceleration when I've hit the 60-70mph mark on the motorway when going slightly uphill or even when overtaking. What happens is that the acceleration/power seems to reduce during this speed but is absolutely fine around it. I can literally have my foot to the floor at 60mph when driving up a slight gradient and the rev counter shoots up to about 3 and the car struggles to go any faster which makes overtaking sometimes difficult. At this point it also sounds like the car is driving in too high a gear but that's probably because the rev counter has shot up. The weird thing is that this has only happens on my outgoing journey. When I have come to drive home it doesn't seem to happen at all and actually has very good acceleration and speed. I wondered if anyone had experienced something like this before. I'm not sure whether "running" the car seems to help it or whether it is an actual fault. I don't believe this car has a DPF so I don't think it's anything to do with that. Thanks for any comments. BrianH Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 Have a look at the auto transmission fluid - theres a chance you don't have enough in there or its turned to sludge (the longer running would heat the fluid more so its less sludge like and able to change). A scan for fault codes would be a good idea as it may show up turbo issues etc.It does sound like it could be a turbo issue though the temperature i wouldn't have thought would have made a difference to that?
